I'm Tom Meyers, Osteopath D.O., Stress-Coach (MISMA), writer and visionary in the field of health and wellbeing. I run a private health practice in Brussels Belgium and travel on a regular basis to give presentations and workshops on among others the topic of ‘Understanding and Managing Stress’.

My presentation differ from most others as I address the topic of stress from a body-mind perspective and substantiate this with scientific research and insights and experience gained as an osteopath specialised in helping people who have stress related ailments. Understanding the body-mind link is key to managing your health, to keep cool in times of stress but also to improve creativity and productivity.

My personal experience and professional insights have further led me to the development of the ‘Reaset Approach’, a novel body-mind healing approach and educational system.

In 2017 a book on the Reaset Approach and my thoughts and insights on stress, health and wellbeing will be published. In his book ‘Reaset: The Return of Ease’, I'll take the reader on a journey where I interlace soul-purpose, personal development, health and healing into a compelling self-help guide to thrive in times of change.

The greatest challenge to our health and wellbeing is the exponential rate with which our culture and environment has changed compared to our biological evolution. In the effort to keep pace we have completely lost contact with ourselves, the essence of being  human and often walk a path that is not our own, resulting in among others the neglect of our innate drive for self-actualisation.

This conflict between biology and culture is the main reason why stress has become a nuisance, to the point that it makes us sick, even kills us, and not only us also the natural environment around us.

It’s time to acknowledge that our current health approach has failed to prepare us for the still faster-changing world. REASET offers you the solution! Start to Reaset today to regain control, to improve your focus and clarity and to reduce physical tension. You will feel the effect immediately!

“This is no Joke”: Stress in the Deeper Future

Interview with Tom Meyers by the TedX Brussels team (25/01/2016)

“Did you know that stress shrinks your brain? This is no joke,” says Tom Meyers, an Osteopath and Stress Coach who works with patients suffering from work-related stress. TEDxBrussels interviews Tom to understand how to cope with our high-pressure world and the unnecessary stress we experience multiple times per day.

Why has stress become such a problem for our health, relationships and economy?

First, lets look at what stress is. Stress is an autonomic biological survival response resulting from a near-instantaneous sequence of neurological, hormonal and physical changes to protect the body from danger.

My Speaker-One sheet

Introduction: Technology has, with whirlwind speed, changed the way we work and the way work is organised. These changes have given rise to new occupational psychosocial health challenges, like stress. Work-related stress has become the second most common health problem at work leading to increased absenteeism  and employee turnover issues that pose a threat to the health of organisations. The question is, why has stress become a nuisance, and more importantly, how to curb the tide?

Bio: I’m an osteopath B.Sc., D.O. OSD, stress-coach MISMA, and visionary in the field of health and wellbeing. I run a private health practice in Brussels, give presentations on the topic of ‘Understanding & Managing Stress’ and workshops on the ‘Reaset Approach’ a novel manual body-mind and educational health approach I developed.

Stress, a conflict between culture and biology: This interactive presentation is based on three fundamental questions: What is stress? Why has it become a nuisance? What can you do about stress? Framing stress in its biological and evolutionary context, the audience will be empowered by knowledge to come up with effective stress management solutions

Understanding & Preventing Burnout: Just like stress, burnout is a result of a constantly increasing conflict between biology and culture due to our dependence on technology and detachment of our human nature. However, unlike stress, taking time-out to rest will not solve the underlying structural and functional health problems of burnout. So what will?

Stress: A conflict between biology and culture

By Tom Meyers on January 25, 2017 published in Executive Secretary Magazine

Over the last few years many words have been spoken and written about stress and numerous actions undertaken to do something about it. However, stress is still on the rise. It is estimated that  % to 90%  of all visits to primary care physicians are now directly or indirectly related to stress. And stress after musculoskeletal pain has become the second most frequently reported work-related health problem in the EU. These are alarming facts and figures.

But what is stress:  why has it become a nuisance and what, if anything, can  we do about it?
